History: Otis R. Johnson was a prominent Fort Bragg resident, a lumber and railroad man, and the son of C.R. Johnson, the first mayor of Fort Bragg (1889). C. R. Johnson founded the Fort Bragg Redwood Company in 1885 and built the first railroad, up Pudding Creek, to haul logs; he also purchased a San Francisco streetcar to take local families on Sunday excursions into the redwoods.
Otis R. Johnson was President of the Union Lumber Company, and Vice President of the California-Western Railroad and Navigation Co., which ran trains between Ft. Bragg and Willits and a spur to Glen Blair (a logging camp outside of Fort Bragg.) The Ft. Bragg - Willits run is operated today full time as an excursion railroad, the "Skunk Train".
